EdgeFaith Youth Ministry Curriculum
By kjerstenj - 8/7/2008 EdgeFaith Youth Ministry Curriculum In today's materialistic society, our youth ministries must work to encourage students to find their foundation and hope in God. Several new resources from North Park University provide a great opportunity for discussion and study on building Christ-like foundations in life.

New I AM Resource Materials
By kjerstenj - 7/16/2008 New I AM Resource Materials In today’s world, teenagers are constantly faced with images and messages about who they are and who they are supposed to be. In response to the daily battles that young women are faced, especially concerning their own body image, the Department of Christian Formation has developed a new set of “I AM” resources to promote a positive, Godly sense of self.

Pilot Resource: One Month of Daily Text Devotions
By kjerstenj - 5/29/2008 - 2 Replies As texting has become increasingly popular these days, youth pastors are trying to utilize this new communication tool in their student ministries. One example of a way to use this tool is to text brief devotions daily to students. The Department of Christian Formation is working with a company to pilot a daily devotion texting service.

Summer Plans: A Look at What Other Youth Pastors are Doing and How You Can Pray for Them
By kjerstenj - 4/30/2008 Summer Plans: A Look at What Other Youth Pastors are Doing and How You Can Pray for Them Meredith Peters Cape Cod Covenant Church Brewster, MA What does your summer look like? My summer looks like a great summer! I will be hopefully going to Youth Nexus with a couple of students. I am running our 2nd annual Senior High Missions Trip and we will be going to Darby, PA. And also a few different churches on the Cape will be combining for one awesome Vacation Bible School Program this summer. When those events are not going on I will be spending time with students and hopefully be visiting with some of them on the beach and getting ready for the fall!

How Do You End Well in Youth Ministry?: Ideas from Fellow Youth Pastors
By kjerstenj - 4/11/2008 If there is one area of “ending” that I think I do well, it’s this (and it is pretty simple, but also one of those “duh” things, that is, obvious but easy to miss): At the end of every youth group meeting, I pronounce a blessing on the group. Sometimes it’s a straightforward biblical benediction, such as the one from Numbers.

What You Need to Know about CHIC 2009
By kjerstenj - 4/4/2008 What You Need to Know about CHIC 2009 CHIC Exists to… Be a catalyst for Christ-like change for the individual student, the larger youth group as a whole, and the church or ministry with which they are connected. CHIC is a place on the journey and an experience that uniquely and creatively inspires.

The Importance of Communicating with Parents
By kjerstenj - 2/29/2008 The Importance of Communicating with Parents There is a quote hanging on the back of my office door that says, “When you’ve reached the family, you’ve reached the world.” For those of us whose hearts beat for ministry to, with, and for adolescents, we know how important and influential (for good or bad) our students’ parents are, and yet we also know that it becomes very easy to exclude parents from our ministry.

TUGGLE: An Online Community for Your Youth Ministry!
By kjerstenj - 2/29/2008 TUGGLE: An Online Community for Your Youth Ministry! If you are like me, there are days that you feel completely behind when it comes to staying in touch with your students. You might get 20 text messages in the span of a single lunch meeting; have 30 posts on your My Space from one Friday night and a million invitations to be a ninja or a pirate on your Facebook account. Keeping track of it all is time consuming and at times tough on the soul as you navigate the good and the bad within those worlds.
