Social Audit for Sudan Divestment

Delegates to the 2007 Annual Meeting in Portland, Oregon, amended and approved a resolution on Sudan divestment developed by Grace Covenant Church in Chicago and recommended by the Central Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).

One of the “Resolved” provisions encourages churches and individuals to respond as follows: “That member churches and individuals of the Evangelical Covenant Church be encouraged to conduct a social audit of personal holdings and investments with information provided on the ECC website directing how this may be accomplished.”

An earlier provision references www.sudandivestment.org, which is an investment screening tool. Delegates added the language “or other appropriate resources determined to be reliable and reasonably impartial” so as not to limit screening resources to one website.
